Costa Rica generates 4 thousand tons of waste and 11% corresponds to plastics, this terrible enemy of the environment is intoxicating our oceans, animals and is also very quietly and slowly poisoning our children, family and friends.
It is essential that today we make a change in our way of life and thus be able to rescue not only our Costa Rica, but also collaborate with our planet earth. Costa Rica is aware of the irreversible damage caused by plastic and that is why on World Environmental Day, the Government of Costa Rica announced a new directive to eliminate the use of straws and plastic bags in our beautiful country.
This plan aims to replace plastic with renewable materials that are also biodegradable in a time no longer than 6 months regardless of whether it is terrestrial or marine environment.
Initiatives like these are worth applauding and to follow, that is why we must all commit to comply with this strategy and avoid the use of single-use talks, because as we know the recycling of plastics is not a sustainable solution.
